Otomo - The Complete Works 12 - Akira 1

Volume 1 of the Otomo Complete Works edition of ‘AKIRA’, containing issues 1-14 (up to page 279 of volume 1 of the tankōbon) of the serialisation that began in Young Magazine, then in its second year of publication, created by Katsuhiro Otomo between the ages of 28 and 29, in 1982-1983, reproduced in its original published form.
This historic work, which had a huge impact on the world of manga, is famous for its level of perfection. However, it was actually significantly refined by the author himself during the tankōbon compilation process.
Through additions, corrections, deletions, substitutions, reordering of pages and panels, final retouches, newly drawn material... and so on, it was polished to perfection. The result is the tankōbon edition of ‘AKIRA’ from Young Magazine, which is still being read forty years after its first publication.
It is particularly well known that the cover illustrations for each serialised chapter were removed in the tankōbon editions.
However, this edition of Otomo's complete works adheres to the principle of “arranging all works chronologically to follow the author's evolution” and therefore presents a restored “serialised version” as faithful as possible to its original serialised state, including the cover illustrations, prior to the tankōbon modifications.
