Kami Sama 神様 is a novel written by Hiromi Kawakami that contains 9 short stories. In each of them there is always a mythological creature from Japan: A Kappa, a mermaid, a bears that talks etc.
Hiromi Kawakami was born in Tokyo and since the beginning of her career, she has won multiple awards: in 1996 she won the Akutagawa price for Hebi wo fumu and in 2001 she won the prestigious Tanizaki award for Sensei no kaban. Kami Sama was her debut novel in 1994.
The novel does not contain furigana. It is a good reading material for JLPT 3 or above students who wish to practice reading comprehension and at the same time, practice kanji without furigana.
