Reading Road - Reading Japan from Many Angles is a book with a variety of readings about Japan and its culture. It is an excellent material to practice reading comprehension from levels 4 and 3 of JLPT. It is also a great book to get confidence while reading in Japanese and then achieve the pre-intermediate level. 

The book is divided in 5 different chapters, each of them with 3 readings. They all contain tables with vocabulary, explanations of some kanjis and grammar notes. When you advance through the book, the level of difficulty of the readings increases and they include more complex vocabulary and kanjis. All readings include a series of reading comprehension questions in which students must answer true or false or make sentences summarizing certain parts of the text. The book emphasizes a lot the fact that pre-intermediate students must know basic expressions or kanjis such as 世界. Grammar notes explain structures of some parts of the text, however, this is not a grammar book, it is entirely focused in reading. 

At the end of the book, there are translations of all readings and the answer key to all exercises . All texts are focused in specific topics about Japan such as Obama's visit to Hiroshima or some others such as manga, Japanese society or the idea of Mottainai もったいない.
