Tsunagu Nihongo is a method for Japanese learning whose main goal is for students to acquire the necessary level of communication to be able to participate actively in society.  This is why the main focus is on communication, above other aspects of the language such as grammar and vocabulary.

The authors suggest the following method to use the book: after carefully listening to a conversation based on a real situation, students will study the sentence pattern and practice this kind of structure. After that, students will test they are able to apply these patterns through a practical exercise.

Tsunagu Nihongo comprises 30 chapters divided into two volumes: Basic 1 (chapters 1-15) and basic 2 (chapters 16- 30). In order to finish both volumes students will need approximately 360 hours. This is the Workbook matching Tsunagu Nihongo 1 and includes 15 lessons.
